vox media brand identity

Vox Media is the leading independent modern media company. The previous iteration of the brand focused on fluorescent colors and pieces of the logo as abstractions. We wanted to build something more sophisticated and easily translatable to the network of designers and freelancers producing work under Vox Media. When tasked with updating the brand guidelines, we focused on a phrase Jim Bankoff, the Chairman and CEO of Vox Media, prides the company on: Quality at scale.

Instead of abstracting the logo into its own elements as before, we took scale in the literal sense. Our system is comprised of large scale abstractions of the logo itself to create dynamic backgrounds for our content to play with. We toned down the color palette and created a set of three primary colors to pair exclusively with a background creating a range large enough for the varying needs, but small enough for cohesion at scale.

I developed the brand concept with my director and principal designer and built out a majority of the brand assets as well as brand guidelines.
